Dejan Vasic is a Lecturer in the Department of Art History at Stanford University, specializing in late modern and contemporary art with a focus on transnational avant-garde and conceptual art, performance, video art, photography, and artists’ films. His research intersects art, power, war, and everyday life, grounded in historical materialism, memory politics, decolonial theory, gender and feminist theory, and the affirmation of critical thinking as a public good.
He has extensive experience in radical curatorial practices and critical writing from Serbia and the former Yugoslav region, including curating the visual arts program at the Center for Cultural Decontamination in Belgrade (2017–2023), co-editing the Beton - Cultural Propaganda Kit (2018–2023), and contributing to collectives like the Four Faces of Omarska Working Group (2010–2015) and the Culture of Memory curatorial platform (2010–2014). His practice emphasizes collaboration with artists tackling social, economic, and political issues, alongside writings in the first person.
He holds a B.A. and M.A. from the University of Belgrade and is part of Stanford’s Cohort 2023. He has been a member of the International Association of Art Critics (AICA) since 2012 and served on the Program Advisory Board of AICA-Serbia (2020–2023).
