Deepali Gupta

Deepali Gupta, Ph.D., is an Assistant Instructor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of the Center for Hypothalamic Research. Her research focuses on understanding endocrine disorders like diabetes and obesity, as well as psychiatric behaviors such as depression, with a particular emphasis on ghrelin signaling pathways and their metabolic implications. She has contributed over 44 peer-reviewed publications and one book chapter, and her work has been presented at international conferences.

Dr. Gupta earned a Bachelor’s in Pharmacy from Rajiv Gandhi Technical University, a Master’s in Pharmacology from Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani, and a Ph.D. in Neuropharmacology from the same institution. She completed postdoctoral training at UT Southwestern under Dr. Jeffrey Zigman, studying the biological functions of the ghrelin system.

Her research interests span ghrelin’s role in energy homeostasis, hypothalamic regulation, and psychiatric comorbidities. Notably, she investigates LEAP2 interactions, exercise-induced metabolic adaptations, and therapeutic interventions for obesity and diabetes. Dr. Gupta is an Academic Editor for the International Journal of Endocrinology and reviews for multiple journals. She actively mentors students and volunteers in community initiatives like blood donation drives.

Professional affiliations include the International Society of Neurochemistry, The Obesity Society, and the American Diabetes Association, where she serves on committees. Her work bridges basic and clinical research, integrating molecular mechanisms with translational medicine.
