Debra Penrod is an Assistant Professor of Nursing at the School of Health Sciences, Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIU). With a career spanning secondary education, clinical nursing, and academic instruction, she brings extensive experience in rehabilitation nursing, medical-surgical nursing, school nursing, and case management. She earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Nursing Education Leadership from American Sentinel University (2018), a Master of Science in Nursing (Nursing Education) from McKendree University (2009), and her BSN from Southeast Missouri State University (1996).

Her research interests include nursing education, rehabilitation nursing, and school nursing, with a focus on integrating clinical expertise into academic training and improving patient care through interdisciplinary case management.
Dr. Penrod is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society and holds certifications in rehabilitation nursing and school nursing. She has contributed to nursing education through roles in community colleges and online programs prior to joining SIU.
