Debra Lewis Hogate serves as the Maine Partnerships in Comprehensive Literacy (MPCL) Coordinator and Senior Lecturer at the University of Maine’s College of Education and Human Development. She has over 30 years of experience in education, including roles as a classroom teacher, special education teacher, Title IA coordinator, and Reading Recovery interventionist. Her work focuses on professional development for educators and literacy coaches across Maine.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Literacy Education, University of Maine
- C.A.S. in Literacy Education, University of Maine
- M.Ed. in Literacy Education, University of Maine
- B.S. in Human Development with a Special Education concentration
Research Interests: Oral language development, student problem-solving speech, coaching theory and practice, and professional development initiatives in literacy education. She emphasizes practical applications of these theories in K-12 settings.
Teaching: She instructs graduate courses such as EEL 580–583 (Theoretical and Clinical Practices in MPCL Coaching) and EEL 585 (Reflective Practice in MPCL Coaching).
Experience: Her career spans classroom teaching, special education, and leadership roles in literacy initiatives. She currently coordinates statewide literacy programs and trains educators in evidence-based practices.
