Deborah Pitts, PhD, OTR/L, BCMH, CPRP, FAOTA, is a Clinical Professor in the USC Chan Division of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy. She specializes in community-based mental health and psychiatric rehabilitation, focusing on permanent supportive housing, recovery experiences of individuals with psychiatric disorders, and occupational engagement in psychosis. She has consulted widely on mental health services and led USC Chan's involvement in the USC Homeless Initiative.
Leadership & Service:
- Volunteer leadership roles in the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), including Mental Health Special Interest Section Chair (2003-2006) and Co-Chair of the AOTA Psychosis Community of Practice (2018-present)
- Member of California Behavioral Health Planning Council and State Behavioral Health Strategic Advisory Committee
Research & Advocacy: Her work emphasizes recovery-oriented practices and occupational engagement for individuals with psychiatric disabilities. She has authored numerous workshops and publications on mental health rehabilitation, including her doctoral study on practice reasoning in community mental health programs.
