Deborah M. Lewis

Dr. Deborah M. Lewis is an Assistant Professor of Nursing and Coordinator of the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Program at Maryville University's Catherine McAuley School of Nursing. With over 40 years in nursing, she specializes in rural primary care, pediatrics, cardiology, and telehealth practice. She joined Maryville University in January 2023, bringing experience from the University of Texas, Arlington, where she held roles including Clinical Assistant Professor, Assistant Director of the FNP Program, and Chairperson of the Graduate Studies Committee.

Her research interests focus on nursing education innovation, social determinants of health, and supporting diverse NP students. Dr. Lewis also advocates for legislative changes through Texas Nurse Practitioners and engages in community service to improve healthcare access for underserved populations.

As an educator, she emphasizes learner-centered approaches to prepare nurse practitioners for evidence-based care. Her current practice includes operating Balance Family Telehealth, a primary care telehealth service.
