Deborah Krakow

Deborah Krakow is Professor in the Departments of Orthopaedic Surgery, Human Genetics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Pediatrics at UCLA's David Geffen School of Medicine. She holds the Joshua S. and Beth C. Friedman Chair for Women's Genetic Research and leads NIH-funded research on prenatal-onset skeletal disorders.

Her research program investigates genetic skeletal disorders including osteogenesis imperfecta, skeletal dysplasias, and prenatal bone development abnormalities. Major research themes include:

• Molecular mechanisms of skeletal dysplasia pathogenesis
• Genetic basis of osteogenesis imperfecta and associated contractures
• Prenatal diagnosis and classification of skeletal disorders
• Therapeutic interventions for skeletal dysplasias
• Placental biology in fetal development disorders

Dr. Krakow has published over 200 peer-reviewed articles characterizing novel genetic mutations, disease mechanisms, and diagnostic approaches. Recent work focuses on endoplasmic reticulum stress in transmembrane signaling, FGF10 stability in skeletal development, and single-cell analysis of placental disorders. She co-leads the NIH-funded Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Training program and has mentored numerous trainees in urologic and gynecologic cancer research.
