معرفی
Deborah Davis is a Professor and Clinical Chair in Midwifery at the University of Canberra, holding a joint appointment with the ACT Government Health Directorate since 2011. She has extensive experience as a midwife and midwifery educator in Australia and New Zealand, and serves as co-chair of the Research Standing Committee of the International Confederation of Midwives while maintaining active roles in the Australian College of Midwives.
Her research centers on wellness, physiological birth, and midwifery-led care through salutogenic theory frameworks. She designs and evaluates interventions to enhance childbearing women's experiences, including healthy pregnancy weight management and culturally responsive care for linguistically diverse communities. Current projects address gestational diabetes, maternal mental health, and workplace culture in midwifery services.
Recent publications demonstrate strong focus on Australian maternal health contexts using mixed methodologies including randomized trials, systematic reviews, and cohort studies. Key themes include gestational diabetes management, mental health support for vulnerable women, and healthcare system optimization through digital records and staff development initiatives.
Professor Davis supervises Bachelor of Midwifery Honours, Masters, and Doctoral students while leading significant research projects:
- SugarMumma smartphone application for gestational diabetes management
- Physical activity interventions for culturally diverse childbearing women
- Person-centered care integration in digital health records
- Whooping cough vaccination programs for First Nations communities
She collaborates extensively with multidisciplinary teams across Australian healthcare services, research institutions, and community organizations to advance evidence-based midwifery practice and improve maternal-infant outcomes through translational research.
