Deborah Chinn is a Senior Lecturer at King's College London, based in the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care's Division of Methodologies. She works part-time in teaching/research and part-time as an NHS clinical psychologist supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities. Her work focuses on health literacy, access to healthcare for marginalized groups, and qualitative research methods like photovoice and participatory design.
Education: BA (Hons), PhD in Psychology, and DipClinPsych (Clinical Psychology).
Research Interests: Health literacy assessment (developing the AAHLS tool), accessible health information (Easy Read formats), and social care equity for people with intellectual disabilities. Her studies often address systemic inequities and employ discourse analysis and participatory methodologies.
Teaching: Module Lead for 'Policy and Politics for Clinical Leadership' and Deputy Lead for 'PhD Funding Proposal Development in Healthcare Research'.
Key Projects: The 'Feeling at Home' photovoice study explores living conditions of adults with intellectual disabilities in group homes. Recent work examines companions' roles in healthcare interactions and the impact of racism in clinical psychology.
