Debjyoti Ghosh

Debjyoti Ghosh is a Scientist in the Environmental Antimicrobial Resistance Working Group at the Department of Applied Microbial Ecology, Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) in Leipzig, Germany. He has held this position since February 2025, focusing on understanding microbial community dynamics in relation to antimicrobial resistance genes in environmental systems.

Dr. Ghosh completed his integrated Bachelor's and Master's program in Biological Sciences at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Kolkata from 2015 to 2020, followed by doctoral research in Microbiome Biology at UFZ from August 2021 to December 2024. His educational background includes minors in Earth Sciences and Mathematics.

His research focuses on functional microbial dynamics in agricultural and soil systems, investigating how microbes affect metabolic pathways in complex environmental conditions. Using omics techniques and bioinformatics workflows, he examines how microbial communities respond to antimicrobial resistance genes, applying metaproteomics and stable isotope probing strategies to understand active community dynamics in changing environments.

Dr. Ghosh's recent publications demonstrate a consistent research trajectory examining soil-plant-microbe interactions, particularly how cover crop systems influence bacterial communities in maize rhizospheres under various environmental conditions. His work combines field studies with advanced molecular techniques to understand microbial adaptation, functionality, and resistance mechanisms.
