Debbie Welker serves as Distinguished Instructor in the Textiles, Apparel Design and Merchandising department at Louisiana State University's College of Agriculture. With expertise spanning historic costume conservation, textile science, and apparel design, she teaches courses including Textile Science, History of Dress, and Apparel Design Studio.
Her research investigates historical textiles and conservation methods, particularly focused on 19th-century garments. Current projects include Cotton Inc.-funded research on cotton fiber performance testing. Professional experience includes roles in fashion retail (Liz Claiborne), paralegal studies, and real estate.
Honors include:
- 2008 BP Teaching Award for undergraduate education excellence
- 2001 NSF Graduate Research Fellowship
- 2000 HUEC Alumni Scholarship
She holds an MS in Historic Textile and Costume Collection Management and BS in Textiles, Apparel Design and Merchandising from LSU, complemented by paralegal certification.
