Debbie Waddell is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Health and Life Sciences, University of the West of Scotland (UWS), based in the Specialist Nursing and Midwifery team at Lanarkshire Campus. Her work focuses on post-registration nursing programs and research in infection prevention, implementation science, and patient quality of life. She completed her PhD at Glasgow Caledonian University, applying Normalisation Process Theory to study CAUTI care bundle implementation in NHS Scotland.
Research Interests: Her expertise spans Healthcare-Associated Infections, CAUTI, patient experiences, implementation science, and qualitative research. Current projects include the IMPLICATE study (collaborating with the University of Pennsylvania) examining quality of life in long-term urinary catheter users. She aims to enhance healthcare practices through community partnerships.
Teaching: Leads the MSc Research in Health and Social Care Dissertation module and contributes to UWS’s BSc Adult Nursing program. Supervises several MSc students and collaborates across divisions in healthcare education.
Grants & Collaborations: Engaged in international studies with NHS Scotland, Third Sector organizations, and institutions like the University of Pennsylvania. Her work informs policies on antimicrobial use (ScRAP Programme) and infection prevention strategies.
Labs/Teams: Active in the Specialist Nursing and Midwifery team at Lanarkshire Campus, focusing on translating research into clinical practice improvements.
