Debbie Trinder is an Associate Professor and Senior Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Western Australia (UWA), affiliated with the UWA Medical School and Internal Medicine department. She holds a BSc and PhD from the University of Western Australia. Her research focuses on iron metabolism, particularly in the context of hereditary haemochromatosis, colorectal cancer, liver disease, and their implications in pulmonary fibrosis and asthma. Dr. Trinder has been awarded multiple grants, including the MHRIF Round grants (2016–2017), and has contributed to over 100 research outputs.
Her work spans clinical and experimental studies, with a strong emphasis on translational research. Key projects include investigating the role of iron in cancer biology, metastasis, and immunology, as well as exploring therapeutic strategies like emu oil and grape seed extract in colitis-associated colorectal cancer. She has also examined iron’s role in lung fibrosis and asthma pathogenesis, uncovering critical mechanisms linking iron dysregulation to disease severity.
Dr. Trinder’s research aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those addressing good health and well-being. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges basic science and clinical applications, aiming to improve diagnostic methods and treatments for iron-related disorders and cancers.
