Debasish Das is a Lecturer in Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Strathclyde. His research focuses on electrohydrodynamics, fluid mechanics, and computational mechanics, particularly studying the behavior of particles and drops in strong electric fields. He holds a Doctor of Engineering from the University of California San Diego, a Master of Science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and a Bachelor of Technology from the National Institute of Technology, Rourkela.
His work explores phenomena such as bacterial swimming dynamics, dielectric particle rotation in suspensions, and the interplay between electric fields and fluid flows. He leads research projects funded by the London Mathematical Society and the EPSRC, focusing on mathematical modeling of active particles and fluid dynamics. Das has published extensively in journals like Physical Review Research and Soft Matter, with a focus on topics such as hydrodynamic hovering of bacteria, collective motion in dielectric suspensions, and cilia-driven fluid transport. He actively participates in academic activities, including journal peer reviews and invited talks on active matter systems.
