Deanna Whelan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at Carleton University, part of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. from Carleton University and specializes in teaching statistical and methodological courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Her research focuses on enhancing well-being in non-clinical populations, exploring personality, social interactions, cognitive processes, and counterdispositional behavior. Recently, her work has shifted toward grit, persistence, and mental toughness, with an emphasis on designing university courses to cultivate these traits in students.
Dr. Whelan is passionate about innovative teaching methodologies and technology integration in education. Her current research interests aim to support student flourishing and potential realization through psychological interventions in academic settings.
