Deanna Haunsperger serves as John E. Sawyer Professor of Liberal Learning and Professor of Mathematics in Carleton College's Department of Mathematics and Statistics, where she has taught since 1994. Her institutional commitment spans over three decades with active engagement in curriculum development and professional leadership.
Research interests center on mathematics education innovation and systemic support for underrepresented groups. She pioneered the Carleton Summer Mathematics Program for Women (1995-2014), creating structured mentorship pathways that significantly increased female participation in mathematics degrees. Current work focuses on inclusive pedagogy and curriculum design for diverse learner populations.
Teaching responsibilities include foundational courses like Calculus with Problem Solving and advanced pedagogy training in Methods of Teaching Mathematics. As former MAA President, she influences national mathematics education standards while maintaining hands-on classroom engagement. Her office resides in Carleton's Center for Math & Computing (Room 228), supporting direct student-faculty collaboration.
