Dean J. Tantillo is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at UC Davis. His research focuses on puzzling mechanistic questions in organic chemistry, particularly carbocation cyclization, natural product synthesis, and computational chemistry. He earned his Ph.D. from UCLA and completed postdoctoral work at Cornell.
His work explores the origins of low activation barriers and high selectivities in cascade polycyclization reactions, non-statistical dynamic effects, and applications of quantum chemical predictions to NMR spectroscopy and structure elucidation.
Professor Tantillo has received numerous honors including the Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award and serves as an Associate Editor for ACS Omega. His research group combines computational and experimental approaches to solve complex chemical problems.
