Dawn H Ridgway

Dawn H Ridgway serves as a Senior Lecturer in Health Sciences at the University of Sunderland's Faculty of Health Sciences and Wellbeing. She manages academic development of short courses aligned with NHS workforce requirements and acts as the School's Academic Champion for Employability and Enterprise (ACEE), bridging The Centre for Graduate Prospects and the Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation department.

With over 14 years of university teaching experience, Dr. Ridgway has developed and delivered modules across Sport and Exercise Science, Paramedic Science, and Nursing programs. Her specialized expertise encompasses musculoskeletal rehabilitation, anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology, complemented by over 20 years of managing a sports therapy business that provides valuable industry perspective.

Her research spans healthcare systems and sports science, with publications examining ambulance staff perspectives on hospital transfers (2020) and neuromuscular balance training in netball (2015). These works reflect her dual focus on healthcare delivery processes and sports rehabilitation techniques.

As Academic Champion for Employability and Enterprise, Dr. Ridgway facilitates integration of innovative career development principles into the curriculum to enhance graduate opportunities for health science students.

Based at The John Dawson Sciences Complex (Dale 109), she continues to contribute to health sciences education through teaching, research, and industry collaboration.
