Dr. Davood Askari is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Wichita State University (WSU), serving as the graduate coordinator for the Master of Science Program in Materials Engineering and founding director of the Multifunctional Nanocomposite Lab (MNL). His academic journey includes a PhD, MSc, and BSc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Hawaii at Manoa (2009), Eastern Mediterranean University (2002), and Sharif University of Technology (1997), respectively. Prior to WSU, he held positions as an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and a postdoctoral researcher at Villanova University.
Dr. Askari's research focuses on nanocomposite materials, particularly the mechanical properties of carbon nanotubes and their applications in enhancing polymer and composite materials. His work spans functionalization techniques, interlaminar strengthening, and advanced manufacturing processes. He has also contributed to micropump technology and biocompatible nanocomposites for lab-on-a-chip applications.
His publications emphasize the structural advantages of helical carbon nanotubes, chemical functionalization effects, and analytical modeling of nanocomposite behaviors. His research has led to advancements in bonded joint performance, epoxy resin optimization, and defect analysis in nanomaterials.
Dr. Askari’s professional service includes curriculum development in nanoscience education and contributions to interdisciplinary STEM initiatives. His lab, MNL, is a hub for cutting-edge research in multifunctional nanocomposite development.
