Davide Maiorca is a Senior Assistant Professor (RTD-B) of Computer Engineering at the University of Cagliari, Italy. He leads research in cybersecurity, specializing in malware detection, adversarial machine learning, and digital forensics. His work focuses on analyzing X86 and Android malware, malicious documents (e.g., PDF, Office files), and the robustness of AI-driven security tools.
He holds a Master of Science in Electronic Engineering (2012, 110/110 cum laude) and a Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering and Computer Science (2016), both from the University of Cagliari. Since 2012, he has been a core member of the PRALab (Pattern Recognition and Applications Laboratory), contributing to open-source tools like Oblivion for macro-based malware analysis and PowerDrive for PowerShell malware deobfuscation.
His research emphasizes cybersecurity challenges in mobile and embedded systems, including Android stegomalware, HTTP/3 vulnerabilities, and IoT security. He has over 25 publications in top-tier conferences and journals, addressing topics like adversarial ML evasion, malware dataset quality, and cross-site scripting detection tools.
- Awards: National Scientific Qualification (ASN) as Associate Professor (ING-INF/05) in 2021.
- Professional Affiliations: IEEE, ACM, INSTICC, AIxIA, and CVPL.
Dr. Maiorca’s work bridges theoretical research and practical applications, with a focus on improving malware detection robustness and addressing emerging threats in AI-driven cybersecurity systems.
