David Yanisko

David Yanisko is an Associate Professor of Practice at Virginia Tech’s Pamplin College of Business, within the Howard Feiertag Department of Hospitality & Tourism Management. With over 20 years of combined experience in restaurant operations and culinary education, he previously served as an Associate Professor and Department Chair (2019–2021) at SUNY Cobleskill. His expertise spans culinary arts, hospitality management instruction, and industry engagement.

Research & Professional Focus: David emphasizes practical culinary education, restaurant management, and industry partnerships. He has developed curricula in food production, sanitation, and cost controls, while advocating for hands-on learning through competitions like the Chaine de Rôtisseurs’ Le Jeune Chef and San Pellegrino’s Almost Famous Chef Competitions. His work bridges academic theory with real-world culinary practices, informed by his decade in professional kitchens in Philadelphia, Washington D.C., and Southern New Jersey.

Professional Engagement: He has presented globally on culinary education (e.g., Izmir University of Economics, Turkey) and led initiatives like the Institute for Rural Vitality’s Farm-to-Table program (2022). He maintains certifications as an ACF Certified Executive Chef, Certified Hospitality Educator, and ServeSafe Manager.
