David Warren-Walker is a Senior Bioprocess Development Scientist at the Institute of Biological, Environmental, and Rural Sciences (IBERS) at Aberystwyth University. He completed his PhD in Biotechnology pretreatment and Microbiology scale-up at Aberystwyth University in 2018, following a Master's degree in Green Biotechnology and Innovation Management (2013) and a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture and Countryside Management (2012).
His research focuses on bioprocess development for sustainable biorefining, with expertise in steam explosion pretreatment, bioconversion processes, and xylitol production from lignocellulosic biomass. He actively contributes to multiple UN Sustainable Development Goals through his work in sustainable industrial practices and climate action.
Warren-Walker leads research activities across several major projects including the Bioreview Project (UK-India collaboration transforming sugarcane waste), BioPOL4Life Project (developing sustainable bioplastics), and SFIS: Xylitol Production from Miscanthus (improving steel production decarbonization economics).
His publication record shows a consistent research trajectory with increasing impact, moving from fundamental biomass processing studies to applied industrial solutions addressing commercial-scale challenges in bioconversion and waste valorization for circular economy applications.
As manager of the BEACON research technician team, he oversees laboratory operations, staff training, and student supervision, demonstrating significant leadership and project management capabilities within the research environment.
