David Wallace, a Clinical Assistant Professor at Mississippi State University's Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, leads the largest university-based high voltage laboratory in North America. A Mississippi native, he earned his BS in Electrical Engineering from MSU in 1989 and later completed his MS and PhD under the mentorship of Stanislaw Grzybowski, his former professor and director of the Paul B. Jacob High Voltage Laboratory.
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (1989), Mississippi State University
- Master's and PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mississippi State University
His research focuses on high voltage infrastructure, electricity generation, transmission, and protection systems. Wallace bridges academic research with real-world applications, training future electrical engineers through hands-on laboratory work and outreach programs. He emphasizes the societal impact of electrical engineering, stating, "We make the world run" through electrification studies.
Wallace's career spans two decades in industry roles at Kuhlman Electric, where he worked globally on high voltage projects, before returning to MSU in 2016 to manage the high voltage lab. His work supports both academic research and industrial testing, reflecting his commitment to advancing electrical engineering education and practice.
The lab, originally founded by Paul B. Jacob and expanded under Stanislaw Grzybowski, carries forward its legacy under Wallace's stewardship. He maintains strong ties to students through lab training programs, campus talks, and tours for aspiring engineers.
