David W. Thornton serves as Associate Professor and Director of Government Studies in the Department of History, Criminal Justice & Political Science at Campbell University's College of Arts and Sciences, a position he has held since joining the institution in 1994.

- B.A. in Economics & Business Administration, University of North Carolina at Greensboro, 1979
Professor Thornton's research centers on International Relations and European Politics, with particular expertise in international industrial collaborations and European political history as demonstrated by his dissertation on Airbus Industrie and thesis on Tocqueville's historiography of the French Revolution.
