David Tizón-Couto

David Tizón-Couto is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of English, French and German Philology within the Faculty of Philology and Translation at the University of Vigo, Spain. He is also a member of the Linguistic Variation and Textual Categorization (LVTC) research group. His academic journey includes a PhD in English Linguistics from the University of Vigo (2011) with a thesis on left dislocation in English history, followed by multiple postdoctoral positions at the University of Vigo, University of Edinburgh, and Albert-Ludwigs Universität Freiburg.

Dr. Tizón-Couto's research focuses on Cognitive Linguistics, Language Variation and Change, and Language Learning. His work particularly examines frequency effects in language production and perception, multi-word sequences, and left dislocation phenomena in English. He has secured multiple research grants from the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation and the Autonomous Galician Government to investigate these areas.

His publication record demonstrates a consistent focus on usage-based approaches to language, with recent work examining second language perception of reduced multi-word sequences, particle alternation in English, and linguistic creativity during the pandemic (particularly 'snowclones'). His research employs corpus linguistics methodologies combined with experimental approaches to understand language structure and processing.
