David Ting is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical, Automotive and Materials Engineering at the University of Windsor, Faculty of Engineering. He leads research in renewable energy systems, energy storage technologies, and sustainable engineering solutions. His work focuses on innovative applications such as underwater compressed air energy storage (UWCAES), solar energy integration in greenhouses, and hybrid energy systems for rural communities.
Dr. Ting co-founded and co-directs the Turbulence and Energy (T&E) Lab, where he supervises graduate students and collaborates with industry partners on projects like solar-powered greenhouses and hydrogen-based energy systems. He has received grants, including a $112,000 award for UWCAES research with Prof. Rupp Carriveau. His research spans fluid dynamics, thermal systems optimization, and climate-resilient engineering.
Key contributions include publishing a book on turbulence, organizing symposiums like 'Engineering to Adapt,' and advancing energy-efficient HVAC systems. His work addresses global challenges such as energy poverty, carbon reduction in maritime shipping, and sustainable agriculture.
Dr. Ting’s interdisciplinary approach integrates mechanical engineering, environmental science, and policy to drive pragmatic solutions for sustainable development. His lab hosts annual award ceremonies recognizing student excellence in turbulence and energy research.
