David Thaddeus is a Professor of Structures and Architectural Design at the University of North Carolina Charlotte (UNCC), School of Architecture. He has been at UNCC since 1999, previously serving as an Associate Professor at the University of Houston (1989–1999). He earned a Bachelor’s in Structural Engineering from the American University of Beirut (1981) and a Master’s in Architecture from the University of Houston (1988).
His research focuses on pedagogical methods for teaching structural concepts through visual/qualitative approaches and sustainable construction practices. He teaches structures, architectural design, and ARE seminars across the USA and Canada. He directs UNCC’s iPAL program, which integrates licensure with education, and has advised students like Sydney Garceau, Alexis Andrikanich, and Tyler DeJong in this program.
Thaddeus has received teaching and service awards from UNCC, UH, and the American Institute of Architects (AIA). Notably, he became an AIA College of Fellows member (FAIA) in 2019, a prestigious honor held by only 3% of AIA members. His recent work explores cross-laminated timber technology and sustainability in mass timber construction.
