معرفی
David J. Tedeschi is a Professor of Physics at the University of South Carolina's Department of Physics and Astronomy within the McCausland College of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on nuclear and particle astrophysics, particularly the search for neutrinoless double beta decay to determine neutrino properties and candidates for cold dark matter. He collaborates with the Majorana and LEGEND experiments, leveraging supercomputing resources at NERSC for data analysis.
Education: BS in Physics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (1987), PhD in Physics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (1993), Postdoctoral research at the University of Pittsburgh (1993–1997).
Research Interests: Tedeschi's work combines experimental particle physics with computational methods, including GPU-accelerated data analysis. His team develops detectors and algorithms to study phenomena like neutrino mass, axion physics, and dark matter interactions. Recent efforts emphasize optimizing Germanium detectors and reducing backgrounds in low-energy experiments.
Professional Activities: He has held roles including Associate Chair (2004–2010), Director of Graduate Studies (2004–2010), and served on boards for Jefferson Lab and APS. He pioneered an Astronomy 101 course using active learning techniques.
Advising & Collaborations: Tedeschi advises current graduate students David Edwins and Thomas Lannen. Notable past advisees include Wondessen Gebreamlak (Medical Physicist) and Nathan Baltzell (Jefferson Lab Postdoc). He collaborates with institutions like Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
Labs/Teams: Core member of the Nuclear and Particle Astrophysics Group and the Majorana/LEGEND collaborations, focusing on neutrinoless double beta decay experiments at the Sanford Underground Research Facility.
