David Szakonyi is an Associate Professor of Political Science and International Affairs at George Washington University, specializing in corruption, autocracy, and non-market strategy. His research examines political systems in Russia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Germany, the UK, and the U.S., focusing on topics like electoral fraud, illicit financial flows, and authoritarian governance. He has authored two books: Politics for Profit: Business, Elections, and Policymaking in Russia (2020) and The Technocrats: Competent Loyalists and Authoritarian Rule (forthcoming), and contributes to organizations like the Anti-Corruption Data Collective and PONARS Eurasia.
His research spans anti-corruption policies, electoral manipulation, and the role of technocrats in autocratic regimes.
