David Steinau is a Professor of Music at Susquehanna University, where he serves as Chair of the Department of Music and Director of the Opera Studio. He specializes in voice instruction and opera production, with a focus on works like Gianni Schicchi, The Mikado, and Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo. As co-director of the GO Austria program, he leads student trips to Salzburg and Vienna for cultural immersion.
His research centers on the music of Hanns Eisler and Bertolt Brecht, with prior participation in a National Endowment for the Humanities seminar at Stanford University. He has performed leading tenor roles in operas such as The Barber of Seville and La Bohème, and collaborated with the Susquehanna University Festival Choir and Orchestra at Carnegie Hall in 2008.
