معرفی
David Smeulders is a Full Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), specializing in Engineering Thermodynamics for Energy Systems. He holds a PhD in Physics from TU/e and an MSc in Aerospace Engineering from Delft University of Technology. His academic journey includes roles as an Assistant and Associate Professor at Delft University of Technology and visiting professorships at Ben-Gurion University (Israel) and Le Mans University (France).
Research focuses on two core areas: microscale interface processes (e.g., electrokinetic flows, membrane technology, and condensation phenomena) and small-scale renewable energy systems (e.g., hybrid PV/T systems and thermochemical biomass treatment). Key techniques include molecular dynamics and Direct Simulation Monte Carlo modeling. He teaches courses on thermodynamics, gas dynamics, and sustainable energy systems.
His work integrates experimental and computational approaches, addressing challenges in energy storage, porous media transport, and fracture mechanics. Notable collaborations include grants from the Negev Desert Large Scale Facility and Pays de la Loire. He contributes to editorial boards and advisory committees globally, emphasizing interdisciplinary energy solutions.
