David Skubby

David Skubby is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Virginia, affiliated with the College of Arts & Sciences. He joined the faculty in Fall 2017. His research focuses on the social construction of autism and mental illness, families and autism, mental illness in familial contexts, sociology of medicine, health and illness, sociological theory, research methods, and disabilities. His work bridges sociological analysis with practical applications in healthcare and community settings.

Skubby’s publications emphasize qualitative and applied research, including studies on cognitive behavioral therapy for psychosis, crisis intervention teams in rural communities, and mental health court dynamics. His work often intersects with interdisciplinary teams and community-based programs.

He holds office hours in Randall Hall 120 on Mondays/Wednesdays 8:30am-10:15am, Tuesdays 2:00pm-4:00pm, and Fridays 8:30am-10:00am, with availability by appointment.
