David Scheschkewitz is Professor and Chair of General and Inorganic Chemistry at Saarland University, within the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology, Department of Chemistry. He has held this position since 2011, leading an active research group focused on the preparative molecular chemistry of main group elements, particularly silicon.
His research interests include:
- Synthesis and reactivity of heavy alkene homologues, especially compounds with Si–Si double bonds
- Stable unsaturated small Group 14 clusters
- Low-valent Group 14 ligands in transition metal complexes
- Applications in catalysis, small molecule activation, and materials science such as silicon-containing conducting polymers
The group's work bridges fundamental inorganic chemistry with potential technological applications in semiconductor and polymer materials. Research is supported by advanced instrumentation including NMR spectrometers, glovebox systems, and chemical vapor deposition reactors.
He has received several prestigious awards:
- Wöhler Young Investigator Award (2008)
- Carl Duisberg-Memorial Award (2009)
- Lieseberg-Prize of the Heidelberg Chemical Society (2009)
Prof. Scheschkewitz previously served as Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London (2008–2011) and completed his habilitation at the University of Würzburg. He earned his PhD from the University of Marburg in 1999. No PhD students or publications were listed in the provided text.
