David Rodríguez-Velasco is a Lecturer in Spanish Language and Culture at Queen Mary University of London, affiliated with the School of Languages, Linguistics and Film's Language Centre. Previously, he held academic positions at Heilongjiang International University (China), Royal Holloway University of London, Queen’s University Belfast, and the University of East Anglia.

His research spans sociolinguistics, pragmatic competence, and intercultural communication, particularly focusing on academic email interactions, emotional expression in Spanish as a migrant language, and LGBTQ+ inclusivity in language pedagogy. He contributes to the Emilia Project examining emotional acculturation in language learners.
Recent publications analyze pragmatic failure in Chinese students' Spanish emails, emotional appeals in academic negotiation, and cross-cultural address term variation. He has developed the Nebrija-WOCAE Corpus for academic email research.
