David Robichaud is an Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Ottawa, where he teaches courses in moral and political philosophy, philosophy of law, and business ethics. He has also taught political and social philosophy at the Université de Montréal and the Université Catholique de Louvain. His academic work focuses on normative political philosophy with particular emphasis on questions of justice in diverse societies.
Robichaud earned his Ph.D. from Université de Montréal and Université Catholique de Louvain in 2008, following an M.A. (2003) and B.A. (2001) from Université de Montréal. His scholarly trajectory demonstrates a consistent focus on the philosophical foundations of social justice, linguistic rights, and cooperative frameworks for understanding political communities.
Robichaud's research interests span multiple interconnected domains within political philosophy. He has developed significant expertise in linguistic justice, exploring normative frameworks for language rights in multilingual societies through works like "A Market Failures Approach to Linguistic Justice" (2017). His work on trust examines the relationship between social cohesion and diversity in multinational democracies, notably in "Trust: The Key to the Progressive's Dilemma Between Solidarity and Diversity" (2018). His contractualist approach to justice, articulated in his collaborative book "The Fair Share," offers a distinctive perspective on distributive justice that emphasizes cooperative frameworks over individualistic models.
His scholarly output demonstrates consistent engagement with questions of social inequality, linguistic diversity, and the philosophical foundations of cooperative social arrangements. Robichaud's recent publications reveal increasing attention to the intersection of economic justice and cultural diversity, with particular focus on how cooperative models can address challenges in ethnically and culturally diverse societies.
