David Rachels is Professor of English and Chair of Humanities at Newberry College. His scholarship centers on American literature with specialized focus on crime fiction tropes and literary representations of psychopathy. He edited 'Redheads Die Quickly and Other Stories' (University Press of Florida, 2012), reviving works by mid-20th-century crime writer Gil Brewer.
With prior experience as a 17-year faculty member at Virginia Military Institute, his teaching spans American literary traditions, creative writing, and genre studies. His research examines narrative structures in crime literature and psychological characterizations within suspense fiction.
