David Pritchard is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology and Social Policy at the Institute of Criminal Justice Studies, University of Portsmouth, where he also serves as Deputy Course Leader for Combined Honours. He joined the university in 2007 after previous academic appointments at the Open University, Liverpool John Moores University, University of Liverpool, University of Gloucestershire, and University of Bath.
His interdisciplinary research focuses on contemporary urban societies with expertise spanning:
- Criminology, sociology, and social policy intersections
- Social/spatial inequalities and poverty dynamics
- Worklessness and social exclusion mechanisms
- Urban unrest and protest movements
- Criminalisation of social policy frameworks
- Quantitative analysis using SPSS
His recent publications demonstrate research trends in public safety systems, law enforcement operations, and comparative welfare state analysis, with consistent focus on policy implications and social justice dimensions.
David has led significant research projects including:
