David Prescott

David Prescott is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Social Science and Humanities at Husson University’s College of Science and Humanities. He joined Husson full-time in 2011 after seven years as an adjunct professor. His expertise spans healthcare administration, public health, and clinical psychology, with a focus on integrating primary care and mental health services, addressing food insecurity, and clinical empathy. He holds a PhD in psychology from the University of Nebraska and completed a clinical psychology internship at Indiana University Medical School.

• Education: B.A., Bowdoin College (Psychology and Music); M.A. & Ph.D., University of Nebraska.

Research interests include healthcare system integration, public health challenges like food insecurity, and clinical practices such as bariatric surgery and group psychotherapy. He has extensive clinical experience as a psychologist, program director, and quality improvement director at Acadia Hospital in Bangor. Beyond academia, he co-owns Hampden Psychological Consultation and actively contributes to Maine’s healthcare workforce development through Husson’s programs.

Personal interests include running, hiking, and family life with his wife Diana (a psychologist) and three adult daughters.
