David Pittman

David Pittman is Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience Program Coordinator at Wofford College. He earned his Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Florida State University, specializing in taste neural coding and ingestive behavior psychophysics. His laboratory investigates how taste signals influence feeding behavior, with emphasis on dietary fats and benzodiazepine effects.

Research publications explore neural mechanisms of sugar detection, inflammatory modulation of taste, and pharmacological interventions. Recent work (2020-2023) demonstrates mechanistic links between intestinal inflammation, metabolic sensors, and gustatory processing.

Awards recognize his teaching excellence (Roger Milliken Award) and community-impact scholarship (Currie B. Spivey Award). He founded the Healthy Eating Decisions program to combat childhood obesity in Spartanburg County.

He chairs the Institutional Animal Care Committee and advises the Kappa Sigma fraternity.
