David Pennay is an Associate Lecturer in Digital Design at RMIT University's School of Design, within the College of Design and Social Context. He teaches in the Animation and Interactive Media program, coordinating courses such as BP203, Alternative Animation (COMM2213), and Major Projects (VART3575). His roles include teaching Aim Studios courses (GRAP2593-2597) and guest lecturing internationally, notably in Yunnan Normal University, China. Prior to his current position, he served as an Associate Lecturer Industry Fellow (2020–2023) and Sessional Lecturer (2010–2020). Non-academically, he has worked as a Teaching Artist at Footscray Community Arts Centre (2017–2022) and Animator/Producer at 3Hand Studios (2009–2021). His passion lies in stop motion and alternative animation practices, bridging academic teaching with industry experience.
Research Interests: Pennay focuses on experimental animation techniques, community arts integration, and innovative pedagogical approaches in digital design education. His work emphasizes hands-on, creative methodologies in stop motion and interdisciplinary media practices.
