David Paton is a Senior Lecturer for MA Fine Art and 1st Year Lead for BA(Hons) Drawing at Falmouth University, based at Woodlane Campus. He serves as Director of Studies for three PhD candidates under his 'Radical Spaces of Making' research brief. With over 25 years as a practicing stone sculptor, he specializes in Cornish granite and maintains a studio at T Marsh Ltd quarry.
His research explores Radical Acts of Carving, examining socio-political, cultural, and economic dimensions of stone-working through interdisciplinary methods spanning sculpture, industrial crafts, anthropology, and geography. Key projects include collaborations with CAST ('Water and Stone'), AHRC-funded work with the National Trust, and the 'Tracing Granite' commission.

He supervises doctoral researchers and leads practice-based projects integrating undergraduate/postgraduate engagement. His studio practice has yielded public commissions including the Solomon Browne Memorial and Leach 100 installation at the British Ceramics Biennale.
