David Pacifico is an Assistant Professor of Art History at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee (UWM) and Director of the Emile H. Mathis Gallery and UWM Art Collection. He holds a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Chicago (2014), with additional certifications in teaching and assessment. His research focuses on archaeological heritage, material culture of South America and Africa, and public engagement with cultural heritage. He leads the Casma Hinterland Archaeological Project in Peru and the Milwaukee Community Archaeology Project, examining early settlement patterns.
Key professional roles include Co-Chair of the Heritage Values Interest Group at the Society for American Archaeology and President of the Archaeological Institute of America’s Milwaukee Chapter. His work has been supported by grants like the NSF Doctoral Dissertation Improvement Grant and the Fulbright-Hays Fellowship.
Teaching emphasizes Latin American Art and African Art, with courses like 'Art of the Incas and their Ancestors.' His research bridges archaeology, anthropology, and public policy, advocating for community-centered approaches to heritage management.
