David Oakes, PhD, is a **Professor (Part-Time)** in the Department of Biostatistics and Computational Biology at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry (SMD). He holds dual affiliations with the Department of Statistics and has been actively involved in clinical trials for neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s and Huntington’s. His research focuses on survival analysis, frailty models, and the application of statistical methods in clinical and environmental medicine.
Education:

Research Interests:
- Survival analysis methodology, particularly bivariate models and frailty approaches
- Clinical trial design and analysis, including the win-ratio method for multiple outcomes
- Applications in neurology (Parkinson’s, Huntington’s), cardiology, and occupational/environmental health
Key Contributions: Editor of Lifetime Data Analysis since 2008, former associate editor of Biometrika, and contributor to NIH Study Sections on Biostatistics and Epidemiology of Cancer. His awards include Fellowships from the ASA and IMS, and election to the ISI.
Advising & Collaborations: Advised 11 graduate students, four of whom became full professors. Collaborates with neurologists and epidemiologists on trials evaluating treatments for movement disorders.
