David Nicolas Hopmann

David Nicolas Hopmann is a Professor at the Centre for Journalism, Department of Political Science and Public Management, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Southern Denmark. He has held academic positions since 2009, progressing from Assistant Professor to full Professor in 2019, and has held visiting positions at the University of Zurich. His work bridges journalism, political communication, and digital democracy.

His research focuses on political communication, media effects on political knowledge and behavior, news consumption, and election campaigns. His recent publications (2025–2023) reflect a strong engagement with media diets, news literacy, online political participation, and democratic resilience. These works employ cross-national data and experimental designs to assess how media formats, exposure, and discussions shape civic outcomes. The research spans political science, communication, and psychology, with an emphasis on real-world applications in combating misinformation.
