David Murphy is a Lecturer and Programme Coordinator for the MSc in Interactive Media at University College Cork. As founder and director of the MAVRIC (Mixed Augmented Virtual Reality and Immersive Computing) Research Lab, his work focuses on immersive technologies.
Research areas include:
- VR applications in healthcare education
- Affective computing with biosensors
- Spatial audio interfaces
- Serious games design
His publications examine virtual reality for testicular health awareness, nursing education, and anxiety therapy. Recent projects include AR-Cork (augmented reality city guide) and testicular health education through VR.
Grant funding includes:
- €391,821 from Health Research Board for E-MAT project
- €50,000 from Science Foundation Ireland for haptic interfaces
He teaches interactive media and coordinates industry collaborations through it@cork network.
