معرفی
Prof David McGiffin is an Adjunct Professor of Surgery at Monash University and Head of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Alfred Health. His research focuses on improving outcomes in transplantation, donor organ optimization, and innovations in cardiothoracic surgery, including sutureless valves, bidirectional ECMO cannulae, and new-generation VADs. He leads projects such as the CALIPSO trial examining antimicrobial prophylaxis in cardiac surgery and the ECMO-Rehab trial assessing early cardiac rehabilitation for critically ill patients on ECMO.
Key collaborations include work with institutions like the Department of Health and Aged Care (Australia) and Alfred Health. His research addresses biofilm-related infections in VAD drivelines, ECMO oxygenation strategies, and long-term functional outcomes post-ECMO. He has contributed to over 300 publications and actively participates in clinical trials and registry-based studies.
Notable projects include:
- CALIPSO Trial: Multicenter study on antimicrobial prophylaxis in cardiac surgery.
- CRE-ICU: Center for Research Excellence to improve outcomes for critically ill ICU patients.
- ECMO-Rehab Trial: Evaluates early cardiac rehab for ECMO patients.
His work bridges surgical innovation with clinical outcomes, emphasizing translational research to enhance patient survival and recovery.
