David Max Steinberg is a Lecturer in the Department of Television, Film, and New Media at San Diego State University (SDSU), housed within the School of Theatre, Television, and Film under the College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts. He holds an M.F.A. from New York University’s Graduate Institute of Film & Television (1985) and a B.A. in Visual Arts from UC San Diego (1980).
Steinberg’s professional career spans filmmaking, cinematography, and production. His directorial debut feature film Severance (1988) was invited to the Florence Feature Film Festival and acquired by Fox/Lorber Associates for international distribution. He has worked with major clients such as Prince, Roxy Music, and PBS, and has photographed films for directors like Menahem Golan. His affiliations include William Morris Agency representation in NYC and membership in I.A.T.S.E. Local 600 and 644.
His creative portfolio includes music videos, commercials (e.g., Harvard University, Booz Allen Hamilton), and documentaries. Steinberg’s work blends technical expertise in cinematography with narrative storytelling across film, television, and new media.
