David Matlaga

Dr. David Matlaga is Professor of Biology and STEM Zone Coordinator at Susquehanna University. As a plant population ecologist, his research investigates the evolutionary ecology of plant reproductive strategies, particularly the adaptive significance of mixed reproductive systems combining sexual reproduction and clonal propagation. His work addresses why plants simultaneously produce both seed-based and vegetative offspring.

Published research includes studies on demographic patterns in bioenergy crops and pollinator limitation effects on plant reproduction in variable environments. Dr. Matlaga teaches courses in Ecology, Evolution and Heredity, Ecosystems, and Biostatistics, while mentoring undergraduate researchers investigating plant reproductive ecology.

He maintains professional memberships in the Botanical Society of America, Ecological Society of America, and Association for Tropical Biology and Conservation. As STEM Zone Coordinator, Dr. Matlaga supports interdisciplinary science education initiatives across the university.
