David Mandel is a Professor in the Department of Political Science at Université du Québec à Montréal (UQÀM). He co-directs the School of Workers' Democracy in Russia and Ukraine, a non-governmental organization focused on trade union training. A member of the Socialist Left (Quebec section of the Fourth International), his work centers on Soviet and post-Soviet labor movements, Eastern European history, and Marxist theory. He contributes to Presse-toi à Gauche!, an editorial platform for leftist discourse in Quebec.
His research spans over four decades, with seminal works like The Petrograd Workers and the Fall of the Old Regime (1983) and Factory Committees and Workers' Control in Petrograd (1993). Recent publications address the Ukraine conflict, analyzing geopolitical implications and historical parallels. He has authored/co-authored over 20 books and numerous articles, emphasizing workers' perspectives in transformative historical moments.
