Professor David Maguire serves as Vice-Chancellor & President of the University of East Anglia (UEA) since 2023. He leads UEA as its principal academic and administrative officer with over 25 years of experience across eight universities in the UK and USA, including prior roles as Vice-Chancellor at the University of Greenwich and Interim Vice-Chancellor at the University of Sussex, University of Dundee, and the Dyson Institute of Engineering and Technology.
- Education: BSc (Hons) in Biology and Geography from the University of Exeter, PhD from the University of Bristol
His research focuses on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Higher Education policy. He authored over 100 papers and seven books, with notable contributions to spatial data infrastructures, geoportals, and strategic university management. He previously served on the boards of Jisc, Universities UK, and the Higher Education Policy Institute (HEPI).
Key awards include the Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (2016), Doctor honoris causa from the University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine, Bucharest (2009), and Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (1998).
His professional expertise spans strategic planning, innovation, IT development, and international collaboration. He has led large organizations and contributed to public and private sector initiatives, including 20 years with Esri in GIS technology.
